Lambrusco Mantovano DOC

Lambrusco Mantovano DOC – the Luscious Sparkling Red Wine from Lombardi

When I think of Lombardi, I think of luxury.  Between Milan’s il Duomo and la Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II – Italy’s oldest shopping mall – Lombardi truly is the region of alta moda, or high fashion. It is no wonder that the region would necessitate a similarly stylish wine.  Without a doubt, Lambrusco Mantovano DOC fits the bill.

Lambrusco Mantovano DOC Characteristics

Unlike its straw-yellow neighbor in northern Italy, Piemonte’s Alta Langa DOCG, Lambrusco Mantovano DOC is a gorgeous ruby-red varietal. Its roots can be traced back to as far as the Benedictine times, although its DOC status was more recently established in 1987.

This semi-sparkling wine can either be a red (Lambrusco Semi-Sparkling rosso) or rosé (Lambrusco Semi-Sparkling rosato).

It is produced within the province of Mantua, located in the larger region of Lombardi in northern Italy.  Mantua is conveniently located between Milan and Venice – and easily accessible by train from either city.

Lambrusco Mantovano DOC is best paired with a tradition dish of the area – riso alla pilota (rise with sausage and Grana Padano cheese).
